LLF was proud to kick-off its activities with a “Girls Who Code” workshop at Lawrence Livermore’s Edward Teller Education Center. Through the program, Lab employees mentor boys and girls in Livermore high schools, introducing them to coding and computer programming. The workshop is the first Lab project to receive funding from the Foundation.
Here’s a short video of the event:
There were 29 students from Granada and Livermore High, 5 were boys. The students worked with TinkerCAD to design a widget and 4 students got to have their designs 3D printed. The Livermore Valley Joint Unified School District (LVJUSD) STEM coordinator was on hand the entire day and promised to have the school district print the remaining devices. After the CAD design portion of the day, the students had lunch and listened to a panel of women scientists. Other Lab scientists came to have lunch and interact with the students.
The East Bay Times wrote a terrific article about the event.
