Named & Memorial Giving Opportunities

John S. Foster Jr. Undergraduate Fellowship Fund

The Livermore Lab Foundation has established the John S. Foster, Jr. Undergraduate Fellowship to honor former Lab Director Johnny Foster, the fourth Director at LLNL. At the Laboratory, Dr. Foster led team efforts that made a major breakthrough in nuclear weapons design that is the basis for all modern U.S. nuclear weapons. He also guided efforts to improve weapon safety and include security features in deployed nuclear weapons. For these and numerous other contributions, Dr. Foster is recognized for his innovation and inspirational leadership, which has ensured international peace and strategic stability.

The John S. Foster, Jr. Undergraduate Fellowship will help attract students to national security early in their studies, and can also attract candidates that might not otherwise find their way to the Lab and/or into an appropriate field of study. This fellowship commemorates Dr. Foster’s legacy, impact, and exceptional career at LLNL and will inspire next generation STEM leaders to pursue a career in science in the national interest.
