LLF was excited to learn about Donor Network West (DNWest), an organ procurement organization based in San Ramon that serves California and Nevada. DNWest is one of 58 US organ procurement organizations, and is proud to be the third largest. Their mission is to save lives through organ and tissue donation for transplantation and research. Not only does DNWest match organ/tissue donors with recipients and make organ/tissue deliveries happen (sometimes across the US!), they also have comprehensive data sets, and strive to contribute to important bioscience and health research.
LLF organized a joint DNWest-LLNL-LLF meeting in March, hosted by Livermore Lab, to explore mutual interests. Topics of discussion included sharing LLNL’s and DNWest’s histories and current activities, as well as tours of the Center for Micro- and Nanotechnology and Center for Accelerator Mass Spectrometry. Areas of complementary capabilities and interests were discussed at the concluding roundtable.
DNWest, LLNL, and the Foundation are excited about all the possible ways we could work together to help our communities here in the Bay Area and beyond.
