The Livermore Lab Foundation was proud to sponsor the recent Rae Dorough Speakers Series talk by author Janet Beard. Ms. Beard discussed her historical novel, The Atomic City Girls before a nearly sold-out audience. This insightful novel discusses the often overlooked women’s history of the Manhattan project and what it was like to be a young woman working in the secret city of Oak Ridge, Tennessee.
The event was held on Thursday, March 14 at the Bankhead Theater in Livermore. LLF invited our donors to attend this special talk as our guests. In addition, the foundation sponsored a special Pi(e) Day Reception following the talk in honor of Pi Day.
About the Ray Dorough Speakers Series:
The mission of RDSS is to present renowned commentators discussing interesting and timely topics ranging from iPhones to dark matter – in Livermore at the Bankhead Theater. The intimacy of the Bankhead brings the guest speakers and audiences closer together providing a unique opportunity for dialogue that is appreciated by both. Each presentation concludes with an opportunity for attendees to ask questions in what often turns into a lively give and take on the topical subjects presented, which range from literature, history and journalism to technology and cutting edge science. Speakers typically make themselves available for continued discussion and to sign books in the lobby of the theater.
It was an unforgettable and enlightening evening which illustrated why the Rae Dorough Speaker Series has become a mainstay of Tri-Valley’s vibrant cultural life.
