Accelerating Earth & Atmospheric Science Solutions
The Livermore Lab Foundation is proud to partner with LLNL to address critical technology, policy, and community challenges to make the world safer and our energy resources more sustainable.
Roads to Removal is a national scale analysis of carbon dioxide removal required to achieve a net-zero greenhouse gas (GHG) economy in the United States by 2050.
The report highlights 22 geographical regions. All have a story. All have an opportunity.
The Roads to Removal report is jointly sponsored by the US Department of Energy, Office of Energy Efficiency and Renewable Energy (EERE), Bioenergy Technologies Office (BETO), Advanced Research Projects Agency—Energy (ARPA-E), and Office of Fossil Energy and Carbon Management (FECM) and ClimateWorks and features research and collaborations from 68 authors at 13 academic institutions.
In 2024, thanks to funding support from Breakthrough Energy, ClimateWorks Foundation and Grantham Foundation for the Protection of the Environment. The Livermore Lab Foundation, along with our partner Climate Now, hosted a series of free community symposiums in Wyoming, North Carolina, Indiana, Pennsylvania and California. Visit roads2removal.org to learn more about the report and access videos from all of these events.
Climate in the Classroom
Since 2020, the Livermore Lab Foundation’s Climate in the Classroom program has provided interactive lessons to 9-12 grade science students throughout California. These experiential and immersive classroom lessons, developed in partnership with educators and scientists, offer 19 hours of student engagement and support Next Generation Science Standards (NGSS).

Research Funded by LLF

With support from the ClimateWorks Foundation, LLF funded a groundbreaking LLNL study that identified a robust suite of technologies to help California become carbon neutral – and ultimately carbon negative – by 2045.
To ensure a timely and and responsible approach to the State’s carbon capture and storage opportunities, LLF funded a comprehensive follow-on report to help understand the current regulatory environment and recommend efficiencies.
