Expanding Opportunities with Full-Year Fellowships
Thanks to the generosity of the Davis Family, LLF is honored to support two Full-Year Fellows in 2025! While LLF Fellowships traditionally provide 10–12 weeks of immersive, full-time summer research at Lawrence Livermore National Laboratory, additional funding makes it possible for select students to extend their fellowship through the academic year. These fellows continue their research remotely, dedicating five hours per week under the direct guidance and mentorship of their LLNL mentors.
This extended fellowship model allows students to stay connected with the Lab community and their mentors while continuing to build on their summer research. It provides an opportunity to deepen their expertise, sharpen their skills, and nurture their innovative spirit as they contribute to LLNL’s broader research ecosystem.
Meet Our Full-Year Fellows
Osman Brown — Davis Family Carbon Fellow
University of Washington
Osman spent the summer designing an automated control system for a high-throughput screening platform used to accelerate the development of polymers for hydrogen fuel cells. His contribution focused on integrating control systems and processes to make the platform more robust and user friendly. Osman shared: “Interning at LLNL helped me clarify my career goals. I am inspired to push my engineering career forward and thankful to the donors who supported my LLF Fellowship.”
Danny Humphrey — Davis Family Life Sciences Fellow
University of San Francisco
Danny contributed to research aiming to reproduce an animal model of post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD) and identify behaviors that may be associated with resilience or susceptibility. He developed multiple automated analysis models to accelerate data processing, allowing researchers to examine a broader range of variables linked to resilience. “At LLNL, collaboration between all fields is encouraged and welcomed,” Danny said. “I wanted to work in a place unlike anywhere else I had been before, and this fellowship gave me exactly what I was looking for, a collaborative, innovative environment where multiple perspectives drive dynamic projects.” You can also read more about Danny’s experience in this LLNL article, spotlighting Danny, on what makes the Lab special.
